Both gathering and crafting coinside with each other. Certain crafting materials are required in order to craft certain items. There are 2 gathering skills that are learned to level 1 automatically:
* Extract Vitality (called collecting until you ascend to a Daeva)
* Extract Aether (learned once you become a Daeva)
The 6 Crafting professions:
* Cooking
* Weapon Smithing
* Tailoring
* Alchemy
* Handicrafting
* Armor Smithing
You pay a small fee to learn each crafting profession that you choose to level up.
At the beginning level, you can take a crafting quest that will pay 3000 kinah and a recipe. Since learning the craft is only 3,531 kinah, this makes learning a craft fairly cheap in the long run. These quests are available to people who have not learned the craft also, but then the crafted products (birch wood, elemental water, steel ingots, roasted scallops, thin leather) must be purchased or got from a crafter.
Crafts can be leveled through work orders given by the crafting master for the profession. Quests are leveled for 1 experience level, then 10, 20, 30 and so on. The first work order requires no purchased materials, but cost goes up by about 450 kinah per 10 points of proficiency required for the work order. Higher level work orders will level your skill more quickly. The reward for the work order is generally some purchased or level-appropriate basic component (say, an ingot) -- points of crafting experience are only awarded as a side product of the creation of the work order items, which are not useful for anything but turn in.
In this way, one can level crafting with only purchased materials (and a lot of time!).
However only 1 crafting proffession can be leveled all the way up to Master. You can learn all the professions to expert level and 1 to master level, which means you can learn 5 to expert and 1 to master if you chose to learn all of them. Expert level is reached at level 300 and finished at 399. Master is learned at 400 and finishes at 450.
Skill Ranges:
Basic learning fee for crafting professions at level 1 is 3,531 kinah. As you move from Lesser to Regular and then to Greater and so on and so forth the fee for access to each level increases.
* Lesser: level 1-99 (3,531 kinah each)
* Regular: level 100-199 (17,655 kinah each)
* Greater: level 200-299
* Expert: level 300-399 (470,800 kinah each)
* Master: level 400-450 (only 1 profession can be mastered per character)
All Crafting professions and gathering professions are learned and/or upgraded in the Artisan's Hall in Sanctum or Temple of Artisians in Pandaemonium.
Purchased materials and ordinary recipes are available from vendors associated with each crafting profession there.
"Green" or rare recipes can be found as mob drops, and therefore on auction or available from private stores (caveat emptor! private store prices are at this time often much higher than auction prices!) |
